This is a nice place to spend a weekend with family.
Pere Marquette State Park is a gorgeous place that I've enjoyed many a scenic hike and serene moment. The drive from St. Louis along the bluffs and the Mississippi is absolutely beautiful--among some of the most beautiful views in the area. During the wintertime enjoy watching majestic eagles soaring along the bluffs. During the fall take in the wonders of sunlight glistening through the bright red, orange and yellow leaves. Year round Pere Marquette offers incredible views of Illinois and Missouri from up high. The trails are really enjoyable for hiking and are well-kept. This is a great place for a photo shoot, a hike and a picnic. It's even just a good place to experience a lovely drive during the golden hour. I suggest Philip Glass' "Mad Rush" as a soundtrack to match the dappled sunlight filtering through the trees as your car traces the curving road through the park.

You can enjoy mountains to shores, I mean there's a hill side as well as river shore.
Much needed update. Saw the lodge and a wedding was about to begin but not private. I am sure that they were sorry they didn't spent more coin to have a private one. The men's bathroom smelled like the streets of Tijuana.
Although the crowds here can be a bit distracting if you’re looking for a quiet hike, the rest of the trails throughout the park make up for the number of people who might be visiting any particular time. The views on the westward facing Bluffs are absolutely incredible and well worth the climb up the slope you get to the top. The park also has an endurance run which is a pretty difficult trail considering the rocky terrain and the elevation gain over some considerable mileage.

You can see the St Louis Arch on a clear day, especially with a good pair of binoculars. You can see St Peters, St Charles, Lambert airport, Lumiere Casino, and the best view of the sunset around.
Remember once you are on the scenic drive there are no public restrooms.
There are lodges with ample rooms.
